Telephone Wellbeing Volunteer
Become a Wellbeing Volunteer with Deafblind UK
Help us stay connected with our community—one call at a time.
At Deafblind UK, we make over 8,000 wellbeing calls every year to check in with our members. These friendly conversations are a lifeline for many—and we couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers.
What does a Wellbeing Volunteer do?
As a volunteer, you’ll make regular phone calls to different members each week. These are simple, friendly chats that offer:
- A chance for members to talk and feel heard
- Emotional support and companionship
- Information about Deafblind UK services
Whether it’s a quick hello or a longer conversation, you’ll be making a real difference.
Volunteer from anywhere
This is a home-based role, so you don’t need to be local. Most of our members speak clearly, so no specialist communication skills are needed—just a warm, friendly voice and a willingness to listen.
What you’ll need:
- Confidence speaking with people of all ages and backgrounds
- A regular weekly time slot to make your calls
- Wi-Fi and access to a PC, tablet, or smartphone
- Some knowledge of sight or hearing loss is helpful, but not essential
What we provide:
- Full training and ongoing support
- Access to our phone system and online tools
- A flexible, rewarding experience
- A minimum commitment of just three months
“I would like to say a big thank you for your support and listening over recent times. You have all been very helpful and understanding.” — Peter, Deafblind UK Member
